CAMERA ADDICT

I've officially become addicted to toy cameras. Just ordered another one from new japanese maker. I'll post a link to my flickr stream soon. PS. I didn't take this pic - it's just nice.

SUNN O))) AND EARTH

Next week, Sunn O))) and Earth play the Brooklyn Masonic Temple. Sunn O)))'s last record, Monoliths and Dimensions, saw them stretch their drone, doom tentacles to incorporate strings, brass, and a woman's choir in order to create one of the most commanding, beautiful records of this past year. Earth's brilliant last album, The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull, brought country twang and delicate piano to their slow, heavy wall of reverb guitars. I've been throwing this word around lately, but this concert will be EPIC.

HYMNS SPHERES

Absolutely epic album. Keith Jarrett, legendary improv jazz piano player, sits down at a huge baroque organ, the masterpiece of French organbuilder Karl Joseph Riepp, in Germany and creates one of the deepest drone, doom, spiritual records ever. Only currently available as a severely edited 4 track CD - seek out the original 11 track double LP.

AKI KAURISMAKI

Probably my favorite movie director right now, the Finnish Aki Kaurismaki. Like some crytic combo of Jim Jarmusch and Werner Herzog. His films "Man Without a Past" and "Ariel" are highly recommended.

TENNIS PASTELS

One of my fave bands, the Pastels, finally has a new album. It's a collaboration with the Japanese band, the Tenniscoats. The video above is for the song "Vivid Youth." The album is called "Two Sunsets" and it comes out this fall.
